Scorching Ray Skill Gem Mechanics

Scorching Ray + Elemental Focus + Faster Casting + Controled Destruction + Rapid Decay + Empower lvl 4 still propably best best what you can do, if rapid decay wont work, then inc. burning dmg gem
There are only 2 builds i can see this working really well in. The first is stacking on burn dmg with the Emberwake and Taiming rings. The secnd is using it as a support skill with a totem since the skill itself reduces the enemies fire res. Just roll AoF and use something like Ice Storm to get some insane boss clear speed. :d
Every other build will probably be rather average unless Spell Echo and Faster Cast both work on proc speed to reduce fire res because i am almost certain the base dmg will be low for something with a passive as strong as that. Like everyone else said though, channel skills no longer use Spell Echo so that is out of the question. This basically means we only have 2 options A. Build loads of ele dmg for the burn and B. Use it as a support skill either as a guardian to help increase the dps of fire dmg players on again or totems to support your own dmg.

"Enemies the beam touches catch fire, burning from damage over time."

If that isn't igniting them then they should really reword that :P So, emberwake should work perfectly fine.

Your statement is false.

Ignite is a status ailment that causes "burning" damage. "Burning" damage can be achieved via various "sources" (Ignite is one of them). Scorching Ray does NOT ignite, it simply "burns" enemies. Thus Emberwake will not work since it's based on "Ignite" being the source (specifically the ignite modifier on the ring).

Again, Scorching Ray does NOT ignite. It simply BURNS enemies. Please read up on the mechanics below.

- Anyone got an idea if Elementalist Shaper of Desolation and Beacon of Ruin would work with Scorching Ray ?

- Will Scorching Ray have any kind of initial hit ( e.g. even Essence Drain has one ) to possibly apply Elemental Equilibrium with added Lightning / Cold damage ?

My personal guess is that "Shaper of Desolation" and EE wont work since there is no hit, based on the wording "Beacon of Ruin" should actually work but wont be too useful without any AoE increases.

No. It does not hit.

No. It does not hit.

Scorching Ray applies a debuff similar to Searing Bond and RF. It does not hit. It does not ignite.

I knew it was going to be a DoT, but I'm still sad that I can't Ignite with it so I could use Eye of Innocence and set myself on fire.. :'(
