Now creates a buff that can take damage equal to 20% of your armour.
Now causes 75% of damage from hits to be taken from the buff before your life or energy shield.
Now reflects 100% of damage taken from the buff as fire damage when the buff expires or is depleted at gem level 1, up to 1050% at gem level 20.
Now has a 4 second cooldown (from 1).

GGG secretly changed molten shell a while ago.

The new skill gem reads that MS can only take up to a maximum of 10k damage taken before exploding, and reflects 3000% of that damage at level 20.

I was talking with another person about a Scolds Bridle, high armor, MS build. Which could spam attacks fast enough to hit a ridiculous amount of reflect damage. (mana -> damage taken per mana spent (Scolds) -> MS Absorb)

This kind of puts a limit on that shenanigans, but yeah anyway. Its probably not worth changing zzang's LL SR Guardian if you are using it defensively now like the build you are suggesting.

Feels like a massive drop in ES sustain and a minor drop in DPS to be able to implode every 3 seconds.

Nooby here so ignore my questions if Its just fucking dumb.

Would it be worth it to run Molten Shield with cast while channeling or would we lose to much dps from the loss of two support gems?

Not really worth it.

Molten Shell has a cooldown so there isn't a point in channeling it to keep it up all the time.

It'd only cast one time, every 4 seconds, no matter what you do.

Better to just press the button manually.

Edit: Well, to be more correct, Molten Shell can only be casted once every 7 or so seconds, because you have to wait for the first molten shell to expire before the cooldown starts.

Awesome, that's what I expected to hear. Thanks for taking the time to confirm!

:D
Also keep in mind that Molten Shell explosion is fire damage and hits enemies so it will ruin Elemental Equilibrium (mobs will have +50% fire res instead of -25%). EE lasts 5 seconds, Molten shell effective cooldown is 7 sec so this effect is almost permanent.

Ok,

so this is a pretty major pivot but I think it's worth it.

My version of armor focused 3.7 build

Energy shield: 18250
Armor: 95380
RF: 416k dps
Scorching ray: 591k dps
Net life regen: +3835
82% max fire
76% cold
77% light(cold/light uncapped atm)

Specials
+ 30% increased armor while stationary
+ 10% chance of endurance charge when hit
+ 2*15% Molten shell cd reduction
+ Iron reflexes

Auras
- Vitality, Purity of ice, Purity of fire
+ Malevolence, Grace (with Iron reflexes)

Now the plan is to add Molten Shell and spam it on cd, since it's instant it's pretty easy since it can be cast while channeling, moving ect.

Aaaannnnnnnd you failed in the trap "Bullshit buff".

This is the real stats of your version of the build :

Considering zzang's stuff, I will say it in the most simple way : it's terrible.

What was your mistakes ?

1. You checkmarked all flasks.
Here is the "Captain Obvious" observations ... Flask have a duration, and charges. Except Pathfinder ascendency, it's impossible for us to be 100% of time under flask buffs.
Here you get most of your regen and get your 75 resist with flasks buffs.
In short, once you get out of flask charge, monster will rape your character. And this will happen more than you could think (boss fight, or any low kill rate, or any low density situation).
When it comes to balance our character, we MUST do it without any temporary or situationnal buff. Otherwise, your character will be simply but surely destroyed ;

2. Grace + Iron Reflexe is a good combination, but absolutly not needed once you have 50+k armor, just like we have. At 50+k armor, we already reach the 90% phys dmg reduction. This extra armor will only works on boss.
So basicaly you waste 1 aura slot and a lot of skill point to reach this complectly useless keystone for this build ;

3. You considered your dps with VRF checkmarked. This skill can't be up more than 4-5 sec, and the soul gain prevention and the soul regen will be slow. You can't be under VRF the whole time ;

4. You don't have enought dexterity, so you won't be able to use many dex gems, like Grace ;

5. You don't have Purity of ice, lol.

For the rest, with Molten Shell, I don't know too much about this skill so I will leave the critics to other peoples.
i dont see anything updated for 3.7, does that mean the build is completely unchanged ?

Hope tree will be updated Soon(tm) :)
3.6 tree isn't really good for 3.7 due to removal of some passives.

As said many time it's hard to provide a general tree that should works for everyone while the tree is extremly stuff dependant.

But here is 2 differents trees that may works :
- From my std RF with some legacy stuff : https://pastebin.com/PJUXawJ1
- Budget build with new tree : https://pastebin.com/feskN6ku

I didn't work yet on a tree for mid range stuff. I will check this later.
Guys check up my 32.5k ES/ 13k ES regen righteous fire build in standard, it's pretty close to perfection :)
