[3.12] Scourge Arrow Poison Prolif Pathfinder - Fast, tanky, easy and fun to play, beginner friendly

Hello. Welcome to my Scourge Arrow build guide. So, let me start with saying that I really love Scourge Arrow. I tried quite a few variations of SA and I think I like this one the most.

Why? well, mostly thanks to Nature's Reprisal awesome poison proliferation. It solves a lot of problems that Scourge Arrow has, and that is having to charge to deal good damage, having issues with struggler monsters near walls and having issues with outputing damage consistently (because of constant charge/release playstyle). Nature's Reprisal solves this by proliferating all our poisons to nearby enemies when they die, so we just need to shoot once, and everything around dies, including rares and leaves no strugglers behind. And for bosses, well, our poisons last around 5 seconds and we run Mirage Archer so boss will be constantly dealt decent DoT damage, even when we are dodging.

Also, in 3.7 and 3.8 poison builds received huge buffs on tree, and Darkscorn (currently one of the best bows for this build) received huge buff as well. Scourge Arrow was buffed too (we no longer have any issues with doors) so now it actually feels great to play even in closed areas.

If you have any questions about the build or just want to talk you can always @ me in PoE Discord (my username is deathbeam#0001).

Pro's & Con's

+ Great single target. The build can reach 10M single target DPS with current setup after around 5 second ramp up (min maxed versions can reach up to 50M DPS)
+ Really good clear speed (because of Nature's Reprisal poison proliferation and Scourge Arrow hitting whole screens)
+ Multiple build variations to suit your goals, budget and playstyle (default, chainbreaker, divine flesh, strength stacking/alberon's)
+ 200%+ increased movement speed
+ 7K+ Life
+ 83% chance to not get hit
+ 8% less Chaos damage taken (thanks to Infused Channeling)
+ 20% less damage taken if not hit recently (Wind Dancer)
+ 34% less Elemental damage taken and 60% less Physical damage taken with 60% uptime (Immortal Call)
+ 3 Endurance Charges (with Enduring Cry)
+ 85% maximum chaos resistance (if using Divine Flesh)
+ Permanent Fortify (if using Hardened Scars)
+ Permanent flask uptime (Nature's Boon)
+ Elemental Ailment immunity (Master Alchemist)
+ Can do all map mods
+ Can do all content
+ Decent league starter, as it do not really requires anything to function, and can work just fine on Tabula and half-decent weapon

- Needs a lot of intelligence from gear
- Scourge Arrow playstyle takes some time getting used to
- Enemies do not die instantly so sometimes we can take some dangerous hits (we combat this with our high defenses)

Path of Building

Path of Building is tool for PoE to plan gear, skill tree and calculate effective damage. It also contains Bandits and Pantheon choice. You can download it here. Important! Make sure you are on Path of Building Comminity version, the guide requires it. After that simply import below Pastebin URL into PoB:

Pastebin

Navigating through PoB (important, read carefully)

There are trees for level 100, 90, 80, 70, 60, 50, 40, 30, 20 and 10. Bear in mind that low level trees are optimized for my playstyle and do not really prioritze taking a lot of life early.
There are also special trees for various build variations (see Build Variations section).
Use dropdown in bottom left corner of Tree section in PoB to cycle between the trees:

There are also special item sets for various build variations.
Use dropdown in top area of Items section in PoB to cycle between item sets:

There are multiple gem sets as well again for varions build variations.
You can see them all as disabled/greyed out in Skills section in PoB:

How to configure PoB for your own character

To calculate the DPS from PoB, add both Thorn Arrows and Release at 5 stages together and then multiply it by 1.285 (Mirage Archer). If you have extra pod enchant, multiply Thorn Arrows DPS by 1.2 as well.

After importing your character to PoB, follow these steps to properly configure it to show your actual stats:

1. Switch to your Scourge Arrow setup (still in Main Skill section) and select Thorn Arrows in dropdown under skill
2. Enable all flasks in items section and switch to configuration section
3. Set Is enemy boss? to Sirus
4. Check Do you use Frenzy Charges?
5. Check Do you use Endurance Charges?
6. Check Are you Focussed?
7. Check Do you have Alchemists' Genius? (if using Spiked Concontion)
8. Check Is the enemy Blinded?
9. Check Is the enemy Ignited?
10. Check Is Infusion active?
11. Set # of Withered stacks to 15
12. Set Rage to 50 (if using Chainbreaker keystone)

Build Variations

Default

Damage: 7/10
Survivability: 7/10
Clear speed: 7/10
Scalability: 5/10
Initial investment:: 1/10

This setup is not utilizing anything special, only base tree without Cluster Jewels and basic damage/life rares. It is the ideal setup for league start or as temporary setup before getting enough currency for one of the alternative setups. Also it is most straightforward setup, what makes it easy to follow and the reason why it was chosen as default setup. All leveling trees are also made for this setup, when migrating to alternative setups just check the difference between default tree and alternative tree to see what to change.

Chainbreaker

Damage: 9/10
Survivability: 9/10
Clear speed: 10/10
Scalability: 8/10
Initial investment: 5/10

This setup is utilizing Cluster Jewels, Chainbreaker keystone and Hardened Scars to improve our damage, survivability and clear speed.

There is special Chainbreaker tree, Chainbreaker item set and Chainbreaker gem set for this setup (see Navigating through PoB section).

Hardened Scars provides Fortify during effect of any life flask so we use Hybrid Foreboding or Enduring flask what makes the flask effect not stop at full life, so Fortify will also stay while flask is active (with regular life flask flask effect would stop at full life together with Fortify). Fortify provides 20% less damage taken from hits so it is very nice defense.

Chainbreaker keystone generates rage for us for some extra damage and clear speed and also allows us to use Berserk to get massive damage and survivability boost whenever we need it. To get Chainbearker, simply get Lethal Pride jewel with modifier Commanded leadership over (10000–18000) warriors under Akoya. The number of jewel does not matter, only the name is important.

Divine Flesh

Damage: 6/10
Survivability: 10/10
Clear speed: 8/10
Scalability: 8/10
Initial investment: 7/10

This setup is utilizing Cluster Jewels and Divine Flesh keystone in order to improve our defenses.

There is special Divine Flesh tree, Divine Flesh item set and Divine Flesh gem set for this setup (see Navigating through PoB section).

Divine Flesh makes 50% of elemental damage to be taken as chaos damage and also grants us 5% additional maximum chaos resistance (so 85% together with Born of Chaos and Quiver).
We use this in combination with Darkscorn what makes us take some physical damage as chaos damage, Hunter chest with physical damage taken as chaos mod and amulet with Cleansed Thoughts annointment what makes capping our chaos resistance easy.

With Divine Flesh, Darkscorn and Hunter chest, this effectivelly makes us take 20% less elemental damage, 16% less physical damage and 40% less chaos damage.

On top of this we also use Divergent Plague Bearer linked with Ehhance what makes us take 26% reduced chaos damage.

To get Divine Flesh, simply get Glorious Vanity jewel with modifier Bathed in the blood of (100-8000) sacrificed in the name of Xibaqua. The number of jewel does not matter, only the name is important.

Warpath

Damage: 10/10
Survivability: 7/10
Clear speed: 6/10
Scalability: 10/10
Initial investment: 6/10

This setup is utilizing Replica Alberon's Warpath to convert strength to damage.

There is special Warpath and Warpath DPS tree, Warpath item set and Warpath gem set for this setup (see Navigating through PoB section). Warpath DPS tree is for min-maxers with very good Lethal Prides (or for people trying to squeeze out maximum DPS out of the build, 90M+ is possible!).

We scale our strength with few core pieces. Astramentis amulet that gives us huge amount of flat strength and also fixes our other stat requirements, Meginord's Wise gloves what are another huge source of flat strength and also easy target for corrupting for Despair on hit.

Another very important piece is Split Personality with +5 strength/+5 life. Split Personality has increased effect based on distance from starting point of the tree so we position them far away from ranger start.

We also use Lethal Pride with Chainbreaker (see Chainbreaker variation). Lethal Pride by itself adds strength on nodes around and can also add 5% increased strength or +20 flat strength on notables around. This can happen multiple times so Lethal Pride can be really optimized with some investment and bunch of Divines. Divines reroll both number (what determines what notables around will roll) and name (what determines keystone) so you want to hit both good number and correct name (Akoya) when divining.

And last but not least we use Inertia jewels to convert Dexterity passives to Strength passives (as we path through Ranger area that has a lot of dexterity but very little strength).

Pantheon

For your major god Soul of Lunaris is good pick as we are dodge build and extra dodge is always helpful. For bosses Soul of Solaris is very effective as well.

For your minor god Soul of Soul Garukhan is good choice because again, we are evasion/dodge based build, and extra dodge is always good. Another good option is Ralakesh to reduce dot from Blood Rage and to get Blind and Maim immunity. Valid options are also Ryslatha for extra charges for life flask and extra life recovery from it and Soul of Shakari for reduced chaos damage taken (what is basically also reduced physical and elemental damage taken if you are using Darkscorn and Divine Flesh).

Ascendancy

Get Nature's Reprisal first. Then get Master Toxicist and Nature's Boon for some damage and defense and finally get Master Alchemist from Uber Lab.

After you are done with leveling (so after you finish Act 10) switch to Scourge Arrow setup. This will cost also around 14 regrets, but you should get that from quests anyway.

Core setup

After you will be done with leveling, your core item setup will look something like this:

Try to get Scourge Arrow creates an additional spore pod at Maximum Stages enchant on helmet as soon as possible, it makes the build feel a lot better (see Media section).

If you do not have Tabula Rasa but you have Embalmer Carnal Mitts and you want at least 5 link, put your setup inside Embalmer, with Vile Toxins from it you will have 5 link.

If you are done with leveling and you do not have Corralito's and your poison chance is not 100%, respec some points on tree and make sure to grab some extra nodes for poison chance, this is very important.

Amulet anointments

Anointments are a new type of enchanting gear introduced in Blight league. To anoint an item, simply take it to Sister Cassia. Only Blight uniques and amulets can be anointed with Notables from tree.

Here is list of useful anointments for this build:
- Freedom of Movement (Clear Oil, Sepia Oil, Violet Oil): This anoint is very useful from early to midgame and very strong for its price. Its also very good if you just simply want some more dodge and movement speed
- Warrior's Blood (Teal Oil, Teal Oil, Black Oil): Another very good cost effective anointment, very useful if you lack some life regen and strength
- Dirty Techniques (Silver Oil, Amber Oil, Amber Oil): The single highest DPS node on the tree for this build, really worth it if you can afford it
- Corruption (Crimson Oil, Black Oil, Black Oil): Provides really a lot of damage for relatively low price
- Vitality Void (Clear Oil, Silver Oil, Golden Oil): As we are poison build, we do not really have that high hits so to cap our leech we need to invest. Vitality Void is ideal for this, and helps if you feel like you are lacking sustain
- Soul Raker (Sepia Oil, Verdant Oil, Silver Oil): Very similar to Vitality Void except it is cheaper and also probably provides more leech on average
- Discipline and Training (Black Oil, Silver Oil, Silver Oil): "Beefy" node if you just want some extra EHP
- Lucidity (Amber Oil, Violet Oil, Silver Oil): Decent damage node and very good node if you are having mana issues or missing a bit of flat mana reduction to get SA cost to 0
- Disciple of the Unyielding (Violet Oil, Crimson Oil, Opalescent Oil): Very good defensive node that grants us some endurance charges on kill and mininum endurance charge (it's better for Iron Reflexes version, but works on all of them)
- Cleansed Thoughts (Clear Oil, Azure Oil, Golden Oil): Doubles your chaos resistance, very good if you have issues with capping it in Divine Flesh version
- Hardened Scars (Teal Oil, Black Oil, Golden Oil): Very strong node that basically gives the build permanent Fortify (if you use Hybrid enduring flask)

Crafting your own gear

For crafting we will be using either fossils and resonators or Awakener's Orb.

Fossils are a currency introduced in Delve league that can be obtained most commonly from Delve as well. Based on the fossil type, they improve odds of certain mods to be rolled and also add their own special mods.

Awakener's Orb is used for combining 2 item bases together, picking 1 random influenced mod from selected item and transfering it together with influence to second item, while keeping 1 random influenced mod from other item as well. Because of this you need to make sure each of items you are combining has exactly 1 influenced mod (you can easily check if its influenced mod or not by holding ALT and checking if the mod name matches with any of the influence names, for example Shaper's, Hunter's etc).

Mods with * before are important, if you do not hit them, just reroll.

When possible I tried to include links also to craftofexile.com. This site simulates the odds and cost of making the respective items.

Crafting poison bow
Craft of Exile

Item base: iLvl 83+ Elder Thicket Bow (optional: use Perfect Fossil for 28-30 quality or Hillock)
Materials: Corroded Fossil, Aberrant Fossil, Metallic Fossil
Mod priority:
1. * 60% chance for Poisons inflicted with this Weapon to deal 100% more Damage
2. * Adds (47–72) to (98–123) Chaos Damage
3. Empty prefix to craft +(33–40)% to Chaos Damage over Time Multiplier on crafting bench
3. (14–16)% increased Attack Speed
4. Any of the other poison mods (duration/damage)

Crafting - mana cost body
Craft of Exile

Item base: iLvl 86+ Warlord Assassin's Garb
Materials: Serrated Fossil, Lucent Fossil, Pristine Fossil
Mod priority:
1. * Socketed Attacks have -15 to Total Mana Cost
2. +(120–129) to maximum Life

Crafting +1 arrow/chaos multiplier quiver

Item base: iLvl 80+ Shaper Broadhead Arrow Quiver, iLvl 80+ Hunter Broadhead Arrow Quiver
Materials: Awakener's Orb
Mod priority:
1. * Bow Attacks fire an additional Arrow
2. * +(21–25)% to Chaos Damage over Time Multiplier

Crafting - chaos resistance helmet
Craft of Exile

Item base: iLvl 85+ Hunter Lion Pelt
Materials: Aberrant Fossil, Pristine Fossil
Mod priority:
1. * Nearby Enemies have -9% to Chaos Resistance
2. +(90–99) to maximum Life

End-game optimization

If you want way more damage and you are willing to invest a bit, you can get Vicious Projectiles + Delve mod bow like this (you will lose some QoL because you will not have - mana cost from body anymore so your SA mana cost will be high). Warning! Since 3.9 bow like this is legacy and can be obtained only in Standard:

If you are struggling with hitting the boss with all pods, you can get quiver like this with extra arrow. And if you are Divine Flesh build, you can get also +2% max chaos resistance on it (what is effectivelly 4% less elemental damage taken and 2%+ less physical damage taken, depends on your phys damage taken to chaos conversion):

To improve clear speed, you can get Embalmer's with Despair on hit corruption, the difference between everything being cursed with despair is very very noticeable (you can also drop self-cast despair for something else now if you want):

If you want to improve clear speed even more, you can grab Devoto's Devotion:

For DPS, clear speed and some defense, you can grab Elusive + Tailwind boots:

If you think you need more damage and you are able to spare some unreserved mana for Aspect of Spider, you can run Fenumus' Weave as gloves:

For DPS amulet, Impresence with Despair reservation is very nice pick:

If you still need even more damage and you can cap your resists without both rings, you can run double Circle of Nostalgia:

If you can get Watcher's Eye with Unaffected by Bleeding while affected by Malevolence if using Malevolence (or Corrupted Blood cannot be inflicted on you corruption on jewel) you can replace life flask with Forbidden Taste (if you have capped chaos resistance with Divine Flesh) or Blood of the Karui (with Forbidden Taste you can replace your Quartz flask with Jade flask):

If you freed your flask setup with setup above and you want even *more* damage, you can run Bottled Faith (pricy, but its really good, so worth it):

Small update:

Added info about Soul of Shakari and Darkscorn synergy, as I completely forgot to mention this. Basically, it is also physical damage reduction (at 25% effectiveness, but still).

Your build seems dope. I'll do it right now and review later.

Thank you for your work :)
Looks good, going to try this out - any levelling guides for 30/60/90 so we know which way to assign passives?

I still need to add them, sorry :/ But for now, on tree, try to get all poison chance on hit nodes on tree early, life, evasion and Master Fletcher, those are mostly core part of the build.

If you are lacking evasion for QoTF get avatar of the hunt early, otherwise skip it. If you are getting stunned a lot, either take Brine King, or Unpredictable Offensive, otherwise skip it as well. Avatar of the Hunt and Unpredictable Offensive are weak nodes for this build, they are purely for utility on the final tree, and can be easily skipped.

Oh, also, get the bottom-right mana leech node for sure.

EDIT:

Also, small update. For leveling, I addeed Quill Rain as great option (more info in the leveling section in the guide)

Awesome thanks for the quick response!
1) What about the Legions? Is it good at clearing them? Does poison proliferate off "freed" mobs?

2) Is it any good in Timeless Conflict?

3) Are DMG reflect maps doable? (both ELE and Phys)

Looks really interesting, might give it a try. Receiving these answers might just tip me over the fence, lol. Good job!

1. It is decent, SA spread is pretty big, in good areas you can clear the whole monolith. But, for the poison prolif, no, atm it do not works with legion, but GGG mentioned that they will be looking about some ascendancy on kill effects not working with legion (and hopefully this includes Pathfinder)
2. Did not tried the build in 4 or 5 way battle so I dont know yet, but, the damage and clear is pretty good, so I imagine it will not be very bad there (ofc, it cant compete with stuff like TS, as that is on whole another level)
3. Yes, you can do both. Honestly, so far no map mod was an issue for me, I just alch and occasionally corrupt everything without even looking at the mods.

[3.11] Scourge Arrow Poison Prolif Pathfinder - /view-thread/2551841
[3.11] Power Siphon/Kinetic Blast Poison Assassin - /view-thread/2687562

Started this build today, feeling decent leveling with Scourge Arrow itself.

I would like to know why Master Alchemist over Nature's Adrenaline? In PoB Nature's Adrenaline seems to give more total damage, and movement speed and attack speed is always welcomed. We are not doing any elemental damage anyway, so the Master Alchemist does not seem all useful beside the immunity.

It's solely for immunity, so we can use better flasks.

E.g, when not using Master Alchemist, you will have to give up suffix on either Jade flask or Quicksilver flask, and losing it on either of them means big loss in movement speed, so basically taking Nature's Adrenaline will make you slower in the long run.

But yeah, it is more damage for sure, as that 20% attack speed is very nice. It's mostly personal preference I guess, but I prefer the extra movement speed from Master Alchemist (thanks to better flasks) a lot more.
